NHMA Internship Program

The National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA) is a non-profit organization that represents more than 50,000 members across the country. We are the leader in Hispanic Health issues who works with a diverse array of partners ranging from federal and private entities. NHMA has a national presence and supports health care workers across the country to eliminate health disparities in the Latino population. Interns are hired year-round and we are flexible with the internship schedule. However, the internship workdays will require the intern to work in the D.C. office.

Programs Internship. Programs Interns will manage responsibilities across a wide range of NHMA programs. The Programs Interns should be energetic, entrepreneurial, and highly motivated professionals. Self-motivation, flexibility, attention to detail, and successfully handling multiple projects are essential for this internship. Programs Interns will gain invaluable career experience in a wide variety of functions including and not limited to; project management, policy, advocacy, research, event planning, and outreach, to name a few. Programs Interns play a vital role within the team and are perfect for candidates who are looking to gain experience and additional skill sets in their career. The applicant should have an undeniable passion and interest in working with the Hispanic Community and Medical Professionals. Communications Internship. The National Hispanic Medical Association is looking to hire (2) Communications InternsHere at NHMA we coordinate a variety of health communications campaigns with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on HIV Awareness, with the CDC on COVID-19, and with Centene on Health Literacy.  NHMA also leads our Vaccinate For All campaign which focuses on increasing routine adult immunizations in the Latino community. NHMA also focuses its marketing flyers and social media ads and messages on its spring Annual Conference and Chapter Events, and winter National Hispanic Health Foundation (NHHF) Scholarship Galas. NHMA sends out monthly Newsletters, Weekly Announcements on Constant Contact, coordinates Twitter chats and webinars as well as manages 2 websites and a portal (HispanicHealth.info). Qualifications: An ideal candidate has proven passion for Latino health and health equity. They are self-starters with strong research skills, coupled with good multitasking skills. Successful interns can take initiative and contribute their ideas and passion to the team. Professional communications skills, office etiquette, customer service, and strong phone and email etiquette is required. Must be able to work in the Washington, D.C office. Fluent and native Spanish skills are a plus. Internships are paid at a rate of $16.10/hour.
