Dr. Sarah Ramirez

Sarah Inés Ramírez, MD, FAAFP

Chapter Chair

Dr. Ramírez is Associate Professor and Vice Chair for Health Advancement and Community Engagement in Family and Community Medicine and Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Penn State College of Medicine, where she has become a powerful advocate for health equity, community-driven healthcare and social justice. A nationally recognized leader in education, clinical care and research, her work focuses on advancing culturally responsive healthcare, addressing social determinants of health and championing reproductive justice. As an award-winning author and speaker, Dr. Ramírez has published over 40 peer-reviewed articles and contributed to seven book chapters. She serves on the MedEdPORTAL Editorial Board and is a Peer Reviewer for the Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine. Her leadership has been instrumental in transformative initiatives aimed at improving access to preventive care, affordable housing and health literacy through key partnerships with Latino Connection and the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Dr. Ramírez’s impact extends beyond academia and research. In recognition of her tireless efforts, she received the 2024 Central Penn “Healthcare Heroes” Award and was named one of the “Top 100 Most Influential Latinos in Pennsylvania” in 2022. On October 28, 2025, she was honored on the floor of the Pennsylvania State Capitol by state representatives for her exceptional leadership and unwavering dedication to advancing health equity, social justice and community empowerment across the state. Dr. Ramírez continues to inspire and mentor the next generation of leaders in healthcare with her vision, compassion and commitment to change.

Chapter Mission

The vision of NHMA PA is to be Pennsylvania’s leading force in advancing the health and well-being of Hispanic communities—driving measurable change through equity, access and empowerment. Its mission is to unite and equip all Hispanic health care professionals and allies—including physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, community health workers, social workers, elected officials, students, residents and others dedicated to improving the health of Hispanic and underserved populations. Through collaboration with state medical societies, academic institutions and partners across public and private sectors, NHMA PA works to champion health equity, strengthen community partnerships and create lasting, systemic impact throughout the Commonwealth.
