Martha R. Preciado, MD Chapter Chair Dr. Martha R. Preciado is a cardiologist in Los Angeles, California and is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including Providence St. Joseph Medical Center–Burbank and PIH Health Good Samaritan Hospital. She received her medical degree from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and has been in practice for more than 20 years. Rio Bravo Family Medicine Residency Graduation June 2026 • Bakersfield, CA Following an energizing National Hispanic Medical Association conference, the National Hispanic Medical Association's SoCal Chapter was proud to launch its first post-conference initiative of 2026, reaffirming our commitment to developing a physician workforce that reflects and effectively serves our diverse communities. Our inaugural event focused on supporting International Medical Graduates (IMGs) as they pursue residency training in California. To foster meaningful connections, we invited five local IMG physicians—Jose L. Hernandez Gonzalez, Karla J. Reynel Naquira, Gabriela Bedolla Carriedo, Oscar Lemus and Irene Arevalo—to attend the Rio Bravo Family Medicine Residency Graduation. The event provided an opportunity to engage directly with residency program directors, faculty, residents and health care leaders from IMG-supportive programs, expanding their professional networks as they prepare for the upcoming residency application cycle. Beyond celebrating the accomplishments of graduating residents, the event served as a platform for mentorship, networking and relationship-building that we hope will lead to future interviews, residency opportunities and long-term professional collaborations. These early connections are often instrumental in helping talented physicians successfully navigate the residency application process. This initiative reflects our organization's national commitment to strengthening the physician workforce through greater representation, expanding opportunities for International Medical Graduates and increasing language concordance between physicians and the communities they serve. By supporting highly qualified multilingual physicians, we are helping improve access to culturally responsive care while addressing physician workforce needs throughout Los Angeles, California and across the nation. This event marks the beginning of the Los Angeles Chapter's ongoing efforts. Looking ahead, we are committed to expanding mentorship opportunities, strengthening partnerships with residency programs and community organizations and creating sustainable pathways that empower future physicians while advancing health equity for the populations we proudly serve. Together, we are building a stronger, more inclusive physician workforce—one connection, one opportunity and one future physician at a time. Chapter Resources
